| We had ordered brides maid dresses and had them fitted to be altered at Jola's because of the discount given for the dresses. During the fitting, the shoes which came in early were too big. It was explained to us that it was too late to get different sizes. A week before the event, the owner Jola, called all four girls and claimed that she was not able to complete the alterations and that the dresses must be picked up. Unaltered dresses were picked up a WEEK before the event and she even refused to give back the deposits. The only reason I can possibly think of why this happened was that during one of the fittings, one of the girls in our party had a difficult time being fitted for a dress due to her being "voluptuous" and requiring extensive alterations. The owner practically made her insult obvious in her patronizing tone that she had many customers her size and that the alterations would not be an issue. A few days later during another fitting from the same party, Jola was going on and on about how fat this one girl was that she had to make alterations for. She even whispered calling her a "fat pig". It was only a few minutes after that she realized that she was gossiping to the same bridal party.
I know our experience sounds unbelievable and unconceivable. Upon first impression of the shop and the owner, we would have never dreamed of this nightmare happening to us.
Dresses were brand name and a little cheaper than chain stores. But the cost of alterations and any other “unforeseen” costs such as ours, was simply not worth it. |
